An Inconvenient Truth

One has to hand it to Gore – at least the fellow is raising awareness about environmental impacts of human activities (old news). If you haven’t seen the rebuttal film “The Great Global Warming Swindle” then I would highly recommend you watch this documentary. If you get a chance to watch this, keep in mind that this was filmed in the same spirit of documentary film making as many of Michael Moore’s films – facts and half truths mixed with a specifically skewed view towards generating discussion and controversy. That being said there are many aspects to the film that should make one question the assertions made as part of “An Inconvenient Truth” despite some of the inaccuracies.

What is interesting from a human nature perspective thou is the whole aspect of how in the late 1960s / early 1970s all the rage was this issue of global cooling. People promoting global warming couldn’t get any face time no matter how hard they tired. Want some indirect proof? Check out the original Connections series by James Burke from 1978-79 and see what it has to say about climate change. The thing about controversial opinions is that it is funny how often those closest to the truth are often surpressed by those unwilling to re-examine their core beliefs. So while both AIT and TGGWS have a some measure of truth in their own right, we should never completely discount the possibility that we just don’t know what the heck it is we are talking about. – K
